28 Mar 2018: The Wall That Heals arrived in San Luis Obispo Wednesday morning along with a motorcycle escort provided by the American Legion.
The wall is a traveling, three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
It will be on display to the public starting at 12 a.m. on Thursday, March 29.
Staff from San Luis Obispo County Veterans Services and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, along with volunteers from Connected Energy LLC and other locals, are spending the day Wednesday assembling the wall.
The entire exhibit is 375 feet long and stands about seven feet tall. It bears the names of the more than 58,000 U.S. service members who died during the Vietnam War.
The Wall That Heals will remain on display at Madonna Meadows, located at 100 Madonna Road, 24 hours a day until 2 p.m. on April 1. Entrance into the exhibit is free of charge.
Several special events will also take place during its visit, including an opening ceremony at 5 p.m. on March 29.
