Arroyo Grande – Harold Roberts Evans, a U.S. Army veteran who served as a Sergeant in WWII, recently celebrated his 100th birthday with a parade and party organized by Welcome Home Military Heroes (WHMH) in Arroyo Grande. The celebration began with a ‘Veteran Vehicle Salute’ involving over 50 members who signed birthday and thank-you cards before parading to Evans’ house to thank him for his service and honor his milestone birthday.
Upon arrival, Evans was presented with a Certificate of Application for his Military Service from WHMH, Vietnam Veterans of America Post 982, State Assemblymen Dawn Addis, State Senator John Laird, and Congressmen Salud Carbajal.
WHMH’s Co-Founder and Vice President, Robert Tolan, stated that the Veteran Vehicle Salute program was established in response to COVID-19 in 2020, and has since organized 124 events honoring over 400 Central Coast Military Heroes. Tolan added that the next Veteran Vehicle Salute will be held on April 15 in Santa Barbara, where 17 local Military Heroes will be honored, including a 100 year old.
