Just before Christmas, Welcome Home Military Heroes proudly awarded a $1,500 scholarship to Sebastian Aranda III, a local veteran who served in both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Coast Guard. Sebastian is currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education at Cuesta College, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to service both during and after his military career.

The scholarship was presented by WHMH President Robert Tolan Sr., Vice President Robert Tolan Jr., and Board Member Donna Cettolin. This marks the third scholarship awarded by the organization, underscoring its mission to support military heroes as they transition into new chapters of life.

“There were several outstanding applications, but Sebastian’s story truly stood out,” said Robert Tolan Jr. “His service and commitment to making a difference in the lives of children is truly inspiring.”

Sebastian expressed heartfelt gratitude, sharing that the scholarship came at the perfect time to assist with his education and living expenses. He also revealed that he maintains a 4.0 GPA, showcasing his dedication and determination to excel in his studies.

“Helping veterans like Sebastian achieve their goals is exactly why this program exists,” said Donna Cettolin, who recently took over leadership of the scholarship program after Julie London, a longtime WHMH board member, relocated out of state. “His drive and passion are a testament to what our mission is all about.”

The WHMH board has already approved the continuation of the John Archuleta Scholarship Program in 2025, with applications set to open in the fall of 2025. All veteran applicants who did not win this year are highly encouraged to reapply next year, as their dedication and stories remain at the heart of what this program stands for.

This scholarship initiative is just one of the 12 missions that Welcome Home Military Heroes operates to serve veterans throughout the Central Coast. From organizing flag lines to supporting families during the holidays, the organization remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring veterans feel valued and supported.

The John Archuleta Scholarship, now in its second year, is made possible by the incredible generosity of the community. Programs like this empower veterans to pursue their educational and career aspirations while honoring their service and sacrifices.

Congratulations to Sebastian Aranda III on this well-deserved award! Your dedication inspires us all, and we can’t wait to see the meaningful impact you’ll make in the lives of children and within the community.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our efforts. Together, we’re making a lasting difference for our military heroes and their families.
