2025 Scholarship Opportunity for Veterans!
We are proud to introduce the John Archuleta Education Scholarship, an opportunity for two deserving Military Heroes to each receive a $1,500 scholarship to support their educational journey.
Whether you are pursuing a degree in college or training for a skilled trade, this scholarship is designed to ease the financial strain of balancing school, work, and family life.

The Application
To be considered for the John Archuleta Education Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be currently serving in the United States military or have been honorably discharged

Be enrolled at a community college, university, or trade school located in Santa Barbara County or San Luis Obispo County
Before submitting your application, please carefully review all responses. Once submitted, no changes can be made. Incomplete applications will not be considered. You may save your progress and return to your application as many times as needed before submitting.
Application Period:
Applications will be accepted from September 1 through October 15. All applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on October 15. Applications that are started but not submitted by this deadline will not be eligible.
Important Notes About the Application System:

The application has a 45-minute timeout for inactivity

Each time you move to a new page, the timer resets to 45 minutes

Your information is saved as you navigate, but if the application times out due to inactivity, any unsaved changes will be lost

A brief warning will appear before the application closes due to inactivity
If you applied in previous years and were not selected, you are welcome and encouraged to reapply for the 2025 scholarship.
Documents/information needed to fill out the scholarship application
- Proof of Service: Please upload one of the following items as proof of service. If you do not have any of these items but have another form of proof, upload that document, and we will review it for acceptance:
– A copy of your DD214
– A copy of your Military or Retirement ID
– A copy of your VA Health ID
– A state license showing you are a Veteran
This documentation is essential for verifying your eligibility for the scholarship.
- Transcript: Include an electronic PDF copy of your current unofficial transcript, showing your cumulative GPA (if available), along with your schedule of current classes.
- Letters of Recommendation: You are responsible for uploading the required letters of recommendation with your completed application.
Letters of Recommendations
Please provide 2-3 letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to your character, your service, and your qualifications for the scholarship. These letters should highlight your strengths, achievements, and potential for success in college.
Other Letter of Recommendation considerations:
- It is advisable that you list 2 or 3 recommenders in case one does not respond.
- The student is responsible for uploading the required documents along with their completed application.
- Don’t wait until the last minute to ask for a recommendation as they may not be able to accommodate your request.
Scholarship Awards
- Scholarship winners will be announced on our social media pages on Veterans Day, November 11, and will also receive a phone call. Please note that if a veteran does not answer the call, it will not affect their scholarship.
- Those who did not win will be notified via email.
- The date and location for picking up the scholarship check will be arranged with Welcome Home Military Heroes. All winners will have their photo taken, which will be shared on our social media sites and possibly featured in news organizations, including newspapers and television.
