In October, Welcome Home Military Heroes (WHMH) sponsored three Veterans on the “Tour of Honor” flight through Honor Flight. This initiative, funded by the Melissa Anderson Project, established in memory of a former WHMH member, provides financial support for younger Veterans to serve as guardians on Honor Flight journeys.

In 2023, WHMH has covered the expenses for a total of seven Veterans. The October flights included Josh Miller (RET US Army) and Jason Lawrence (RET. USAF). Additionally, Vincent Garcia, a participant in the April Flight, was invited back for the recent flight to assist Robert Tolan Jr. as a bus assistant.

Tolan Jr. expressed his hope to send six more Veterans as guardians in 2024 (three per trip). He presented the board with a budget proposal, requesting funding for an additional eight Veterans at $1,500 each for the upcoming year. This allocation aims to allow for flexibility, accommodating two extra Veterans or one additional participant per trip, addressing potential emergency guardian needs from Honor Flight. The proposed budget for 2024 stands at $12,000.

The Melissa Anderson Project is sustained through the generous contributions of our community members and the proceeds from our Golf Tournament.
